Many homeless people have lost their homes and properties due to frequent Covid 19 outbreaks, floods, river erosion, and other natural calamities. These homeless children are one of them. But at the age of going to school with a school bag on their shoulder, life got involved in the battle for livelihood. They were forced to resettle to the city in search of a better destiny. The photo was taken at the South Surma dumping yard in Sylhet, Bangladesh where the garbage of the Sylhet City Corporation is brought and dumped every day. One of their jobs is to collect plastic products from the city corporation garbage and sell them to various bottle factories in Sylhet city at a per kg rate. After collecting the bottles from the garbage, sometimes all the friends join together to play football. Despite all the concerns, they have endured during their childhood in the garbage dumping yard.

In Chittagong there was a volunteer colony where some volunteers were not able to earn that much money but give their whole hard work for the country. They are the silent fighters who keep the country neat and clean. There are no limitations for their struggle for the country but people did not give them that much priority just because they are illiterate and doing low class jobs   in society. This is why they have started living in a separating area of the Chittagong known as a Mathor Palli.  As they are so poor and they cannot buy new clothes for their Holi festival so that, before every Holi festival they wash all their old clothes and make it colorful as much as they can. Like their clothes their life still not that much colorful at all.

On the island of Pemba, located on the coast of the Indian Ocean, the fishermen return to the shore in the evening. This fishergirl takes the fish she carries on her shoulder to her home. She takes safe steps by securing the evening meal of the house. I stayed in Tanzania for 1 month due to a documentary project. Taking advantage of the free day, I took my camera and went down to the ocean shore. she suddenly appeared in gray air. The contrast between her red clothes and the cloudy sky was eye-catching. She was carrying her fish with quick steps, concentrating on her work. It was like I was in a fragment of a dream. But it was real. This colorful country carries a photogenic detail in every corner. It offers the photographers unlimited possibilities. In this process, I tried to adapt myself to the flow of life as much as I could. I tried to adapt the pace of life to the speed of my shutter. I tried neither to lag behind the moment nor to reach that moment early.

Forest fires are a global problem that directly affects the climate and biodiversity of the planet. A new report from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) claims that by 2030 the frequency of forest fires will increase by 14%, by 2050 by 30%, and by 2100 by 50%.
In Australia in 2020, about 1000,000,000 (one billion) wild and domestic animals were killed by wildfires. Biodiversity is being lost worldwide and over 4,400 terrestrial and freshwater species have been threatened in recent years. The effect of the fires affects the Arctic, increasing the melting of ice, and during combustion, carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere - causing a greenhouse effect and climate change.

According to the Bangladesh government, more than One million Rohingyas currently live here. The lives of these Rohingya children in the refugee camps are very limited and normal. Where the lives of these Rohingya children without a country are bound in a dreamless dream. According to the United Nations, the Rohingyas are currently the most oppressed people in the world. These oppressed people are being deprived of many basic human rights, which is a very significant issue. A section of this population has been officially living in Bangladesh as refugees for the last 6 years. The government of Bangladesh and various Human Rights organizations around the world has been humbly trying its best to make the Rohingyas live a better life.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) labeled Nigeria the most prominente hub of the pangolin trade. With copious amounts of pangolin scales illegally exported from the country and hundreds of millions of dollars moving through Nigeria in pangolin trafficking every year.
Locally hunted for food, sold in markets, and internationally trafficked to Asia for traditional medicines and fashion accessories, the annual numbers of trafficked pangolins present a horrendous scenario. Still, fortunately, a small group is fighting to preserve this species. Green Fingers Wildlife Conservation in Lagos, Nigeria, is one of them. This center manages wildlife zoological and botanical gardens for educational purposes to bring people closer to nature, promoting awareness among young people of the need and importance of conserving the natural environment and wildlife. Green Fingers provide safe habitats for the species they frequently rescue. I was lucky enough to spend an entire day with Greenfingers, and it was moving to see how much care and love these people put into saving pangolins and other animals from extinction. We must bring our attention to trafficked species and join those working to save them.

In February 2022, Russian military forces launched a new offensive on Ukraine. Since then, the whole world has witnessed the horrors perpetrated by the occupiers.
In Chernihiv, a small region north of Kyiv, the invasion was felt during the first months of the attack, leaving a trail of destruction that is still felt today.
In a house given by locals to volunteers from the NGO "Repair Together", we see a street cat taking advantage of human warmth after a freezing November night. Every weekend, dozens of young volunteers from various parts of the country come together to help rebuild properties hit by the Russian occupying forces during the first months of the recent invasion, in remote villages and regions where the population is mostly elderly and less well-off.

Zomir Hussain, a father of six, weeping in the aftermath of the fire on 5 March 2023  that destroyed some 2800 shelters, affecting more than 15,000 Rohingya refugees. Zomir lost his shelter and all of his family’s possessions, including food rations and clothes belonging to his children and wife.

“I was at a local bazaar when the fire was started in my camp on 5 March,” Zomir Hussain said. “I didn't know that a fire had started in my camp. When I heard that the fire broke out, I immediately came back and saw my shelter was totally destroyed and there was nothing left. Then, I was so distressed and I started looking for my children and family members. I found them after some hours. They all are safe. Now I have nothing to eat and wear. I need to rebuild my life from scratch.”

The devastating fire that swept through the Rohingya refugee camps at Cox's Bazar is a stark reminder of the intersectional challenges facing this vulnerable population. The Rohingya people have long faced persecution and discrimination in their home country of Myanmar, forcing them to flee to Bangladesh as refugees. But once in Bangladesh, they face a range of other challenges, including poverty, limited access to healthcare and education, and the ongoing impacts of climate change.
The fire in March 2023 highlights the intersectional nature of these challenges. The overcrowded and squalid conditions in the refugee camps made them particularly vulnerable to fires, which are becoming more frequent and intense due to the impacts of climate change. The fire also destroyed vital facilities for water, health, and education, exacerbating existing challenges in these areas.
Moreover, the fire disproportionately affected women, children, and other marginalized groups within the refugee population. Women, for example, often bear the primary responsibility for caring for children and ensuring access to food and other basic necessities. The loss of food rations and other possessions therefore disproportionately impacts women and their families. Children, too, are especially vulnerable in such crises, and many have been left traumatized by the experience.

Taj and Akash travel every day from station to station with their mother begging to make a living. Train surfing is not without risk, but is a common form of transportation in Bangladesh. People have suffered electrocution, severed limbs, falling onto the tracks and colliding with tunnels. However, this cannot stop them jumping onto moving trains, and running away from the police bamboo sticks becomes a daily routine.

"Takanakuy" is a Quechua word meaning "fight" or "confrontation". On the fifth day of the carnival celebrations in the small Jaujan village of Marco, this is the highlight of the festivities. The villagers, divided into quarters and wearing different colored scarves, play against each other with wheat flour, water and sometimes herbs, celebrating and giving thanks for the fertility of the land and the livestock. This festival has pastoral origins and, according to the villagers, was intended to ensure the fertility of the cattle. They also claim that it was already an old tradition in 1870.

After birth, babies were (and still are) usually kept unseen for forty days. After the end of this period, parents finally showed the newborn to the village, nowadays to their friends and families during a celebration. Traditionally, forty neighbors were supposed to bring forty pieces of cloth to the baby so that the family could make clothes for it. Each piece represented a day the baby had lived. They were supposed to be magic and promise happiness and health to the child who wore them. Now, guests usually bring money to the parents during the celebration.
The baby was placed in a wooden cradle called “Nashik” for the first time. Traditionally, the eldest woman in the village or tribe was supposed to do this. This was meant to promise a long life to the child, who would live just as long as the woman.

The velocity of urbanization has accelerated in developing countries nowadays. Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, is no exception. Lane number ten is an inner sidewalk road on Avenue 4 in Section 11 of Mirpur. For the greater good of this area, the authority conducted an eviction drive on 21st January 2021 to demolish illegal establishments. The eviction caused tremendous suffering and losses to the residents. It was a tough time for them as many families had to stay outside without shelter due to losing their homes.

The devastating fire that occurred on 5 March 2023 in the Rohingya refugee camps at Cox’s Bazar, near the Bangladesh–Myanmar border, left nearly 16,000 refugees homeless. It also destroyed already limited food rations, as well as vital facilities for water, health and education. The fire started at 2:45 pm and burned till 5 pm on a windy day – it was impossible to salvage the bamboo-and-tarp shelters of the settlements. Thousands of families were unable to recover anything of their household assets, left with little choice but to flee the fire and save their lives.
In the aftermath of a devastating fire, Rohingya refugees rise from the ashes, silhouetted against the sun as they climb a small hill. Despite the darkness and destruction that surrounds them, they carry on with resilience and determination.
These silhouettes of hope are a testament to the strength and courage of the Rohingya people, who have faced unimaginable challenges and discrimination. Through this image, we are reminded of the urgent need to support and stand with those who are most vulnerable.

This is the historical village of Chittagong, Bangladesh where generation to generation  works for this clay pot. Pottery is an art which is very old. It plays an important role in studying culture. In Bangladesh in small small villages still people work for this pottery culture where they earn their daily expenses by selling pottery. They established their culture, where they contribute their time, passion and technology to make pottery and so many families include their family members to work with them. Sometimes in each family from the eldest member to the youngest members paid their hard work to make pottery for living. In this photograph it represents they have no bound to gender discrimination, Besides men, women also help them to make clay pots to earn money. In the village most mornings they help each other to pamper themselves and work together in the pottery yard in front of their home which is a very rare scene nowadays. Due to the update of modernity to all around the world these histories are starting to erase from people's minds.

Hope has been fighting to prevent others from incurring the same trauma she endured and, in her home, takes care of children brought out of captivity in Libya. Many of them no longer have parents, so she adopts them, hoping to find a new family for them.
Hope was kidnapped and imprisoned in Libya at 23. She desired to go to Libya because she wanted an opportunity to earn money to pay for her school. Hope spent 34 days on the road to Libya, traveling without eating and bathing, hidden in the back of vans with other children, suffering extortion and constant sexual harassment. Crossing the desert littered with human bones of travelers who could not survive the journey, she finally arrived in Tripoli, Libya, thinking the worst was over.
But as soon as they entered the city, the driver handed her over to the Libyan police, who tortured her for hours before taking her to prison. Hope spent 97 days in a prison where, while daily she was raped and beaten, she witnessed prisoners killed indiscriminately while their bodies were dismembered and sold to organ traffickers. She knew that that was her fate. However, one day, she was able to escape by finding the cell door open.
After a two-months journey home to Nigeria, Hope realized she was pregnant and understood it was a gift from God. Four years have passed and today, Hope and her son received these five souls, saved from Libya, and brought them into their family. Her love will carry all of them home.

Ruma, pictured with her son Ankit, bravely navigates the flooded backyard of her former home. Her life has been marked by immense challenges and hardships. At the tender age of 11, she was abducted by a neighbor and subjected to three years of trafficking.
When Ruma was rescued, she was already nine months pregnant. Tragically, just a month later, her newborn passed away in her arms, when Ruma herself was just 13 years old.
Despite the family's well-intentioned actions, they unwittingly arranged for Ruma's marriage to a mentally unwell individual. This decision had lasting consequences. Ruma became a mother of three children, one of whom, her second daughter, suffers from Thalassemia and requires frequent blood transfusions—approximately 3-4 times each month.
In May 2020, the Sunderban delta was ravaged by a catastrophic tropical cyclone, leaving Ruma's house submerged in water, a situation that persists to this day. Despite the immense challenges life has thrown her way, Ruma remains determined. She faces the daunting task of providing her three children with education, medical care, a roof over their heads, and meeting their basic needs, even in the absence of a stable home.

Travelers are regarded as sacred by Georgians, so the least one should expect is a smile followed by an invitation for some homemade food and drinks (usually coffee or wine) when roaming this gorgeous country.
I captured this beautiful scene in a house in Ambrolauri, Racha region. Although I exchanged very few words with her, this lady felt compelled to invite me in, fry some cornbread (mchadi) while her family was busy finding bottles of wine in their cellar to offer them as a gift. Hospitality comes in many shapes in Georgia, but I rate Racha as one of the top places where people will treat travelers like their own kin.

At a time in history when human existence and freedom have been threatened, reminding us of the fragility of our condition, the need to adopt a more compassionate approach guided by kindness is even more imperative.
We are creatures of a day and the underlying message couldn't be more timely: "There was music here. Be kind". Because in the midst of a global humanitarian scenario that is once again looking bleak, as long as we still consciously opt for kindness, there will be beauty in existence.

Gipsy families in Bangladesh often use wild animals for their daily earnings. These families roam around and try to earn their livelihood in many ways. Using wild animals like monkeys, snakes, elephants, and parrots to make money is a tradition for them. In the photograph, the monkey named Mousumi, by its master, has been serving for 22 years. When I photographed the monkey, I felt its eagerness to return to its green home instead of living in a wooden box.

A boy standing at the rounded entrance steps, where in an old archival image, my parents with aunts and uncle were sitting in our old Latifabad house somewhere in mid-80s in Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan.
This image is part of my long-term auto-ethnographic photo project “Somewhere in Between”. This project aims to explore and reclaim the lost identity of the Sindhi community through a long-term photo project that delves into personal family archives and memories.
On September 30, 1988, ethnic violence tore through the historical façade of Sindh a multi-ethnic region in Pakistan that created conflict between an indigenous Sindhi community, and a community of migrants (Muhajirs) who arrived here in the aftermath of the partition of India in 1947. What remained after those events had a wide-ranging impact on the lives of the residents of the two major cities; Hyderabad and Karachi.
My family moved to Karachi in 1992, where I was raised in a society where being a native speaker was considered an uncivilized trait. Hence, I was pushed further away from my Sindhi roots.
As I began questioning my identity and searching for the lost Sindhiness in me, which was silenced as the years go by after the riots, and my other half (Sindhi) went missing a midst heavy influence of the post-colonial era. The idea of giving my doubts and disconnection a shape of a long-term photo project came from years of long conversations and arguments with my father. So, this project became more like a personal journey. I began by looking into my family archives, particularly when my parents got married, by visiting our old house where I was born, which my family was forced to vacant and had to move to the other part of the city during the riots.

Laila and her family were forced to flee from Myanmar in 2017. They are currently living at the world's largest refugee settlement, in Cox’s Bazar district in Bangladesh. Laila's husband has a disability, and her family is totally dependent on humanitarian aid.
“The food rations that we receive monthly were essential,” Laila said. “I don't know how we can survive if the WFP provides fewer rations to us. I'm very much worried for the health of my child and my vulnerable husband.”

The Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh presents intersecting challenges that exacerbate the already dire situation for the vulnerable population. Children make up nearly half of the refugees, yet education remains out of reach for many due to the closure of community-led learning facilities and lack of consistent support from the Bangladesh state and international community. Girls, in particular, face greater barriers to learning, further weakening the long-term prospects of the community.

Compounding the issue, the reduction in food rations announced by the World Food Programme in February 2023 risks leading to even more dire consequences for the refugees. Already living in precarious conditions, the reduction in rations could lead to a rise in extortion, sex work, human trafficking, drug trafficking, domestic violence and child abuse. With limited food access, children may be forced to leave school and engage in child labor, while many refugees may risk their lives attempting dangerous journeys to other countries for work opportunities.

Laila, a refugee living in Cox's Bazar district, expressed deep concern for her family's well-being. Her husband has a disability, leaving them completely dependent on humanitarian aid. With the reduction in food rations, Laila fears for the health of her child and vulnerable husband.
The intersection of gender, age, disability, and refugee status highlights the urgent need for a comprehensive approach to addressing the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh. This must include access to education, adequate food, and work opportunities, as well as protection against the myriad of risks faced by this vulnerable population.

Sometimes in each family from the eldest member to the youngest members paid their hard work to make pottery for living. In this photograph it represents they have no bound to gender discrimination, Besides men, women also help them to make clay pots to earn money. In the village most mornings they help each other to pamper themselves and work together in the pottery yard in front of their home which is a very rare scene nowadays. Due to the update of modernity to all around the world these histories are starting to erase from people's minds.

The photo is part of a series on Congolese "sapeurs" (dandies) who, posing in cemeteries, recreate a utopian universe of being/appearing, where narcissism and respect for others (living or dead) coincide.
The series is part of the artistic project "Vanitas" (2010-2020), which addresses the spiritual and human dimension of "La Sape" (Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes) – movement that fuses collectivism and individualism, reinterpreting tradition and memory.

This picture shows a mother and a grandmother, a daughter and an aunt, a granddaughter and a niece. They are the only women with direct blood ties in the family.
In addition to blood, daughter-aunt inherited a gene from mother-grandmother. That gene, PALB2, causes breast cancer. Unfortunately, the mother-grandmother developed it; the daughter-aunt lives in fear that at any moment the little monster will awaken and shorten her life. The granddaughter-niece will live to adulthood in the hope that she has not inherited this gene.
All three are at different stages of life. Time is supposed to be different for each of them, but they can all have the same time.

At the foothills of the Mehrangarh Fort at Jodhpur, Rajasthan, there is a breathtaking spread of houses, all blue.
The 500-year-old settlement, called Brahmpuri, is characterized by its organic street patern, where the primary lane branches out into a complex skein of sub-lanes. Inhabited by Brahmins, the village is distinguished by its electric and azure blue walls, due to which Jodhpur is called the Blue City of India.
Some houses have arched windows, in consonance with doors and gateways. Others have extremely well-carved jaali and intricate bracket work on the facades, but the most noticeable thing is that blue cladding dominates in all of them.

They act in their intimate theater, but the whole city is also a theater, and the actors are legion, and the drama crowned by silence already spans many days and nights.
In that complete motionless abstraction, from which even pain and terror are absent, living creatures seem to listen and even watch some of their organs, the heart, let us say, the secret and irreparable course of the blood.
Windows that give no one knows where empty the time with their raw and wild light. 
The body begins to breathe not faster but deeper. 
And their hearts endure. Because it is seen that the heart can support anything, anything, anything...

European policies have planned economic activity of southern countries around the tertiary sector, turning them into tourist resorts for the northern countries which have industry and a solid flourishing economy.
The streets of southern Europe are increasingly filled with lost individuals, who don't have a roof over their heads, a means of subsistence or, what is even more dangerous, a glimmer of hope.

Many homeless people in Dhaka have lost their homes and properties due to frequent flooding, river erosion and other natural calamities. They have been forced to migrate to the city in search of a better future.
These people have nowhere to shelter in big cities. Their day begins in street dumps and ends on roads to nowhere. 
In concrete covered streets, boats are flower-beds for these refugees who practically have no identity. They survive as street vendors, laborers, and doing other odd jobs.

Lethe is part of the series "Redefining Nudes", which reclaims the image of the body not as an object, beautiful or sexual, but as part of the integral human being, which has its desires and is as extraordinary as it is magnetic when shown as it really is.
The people portrayed expressed the need to rediscover their bodies, to make peace with them, to learn to love them, to express their freedom. Through the lens of the camera, we experienced transformation and trust; we moved together, exchanged stories and secrets. The images were taken during confinement, in rituals of rare intimacy.

Walid Abu Rashid passes in front of the bombed buildings with his wooden board and a bag of toys. For the children who follow him, it is a relief from the war in Idlib. While they sing, the hand puppet theater brings out various animals.
Here, everyday life is unnatural. Bombs fall. Reality cannot be denied, but some try desperately to resist it with determination, hope, and a desire to live. This project illustrates the struggle of children to overcome war in a region surrounded by Syrian government forces for more than 10 years. About 12,000 children have been killed or injured.
When I photographed these children, I felt like I was one of them, even though I did not experience my childhood (except through the camera).

The old fisherman is floating through the flooded lagoon in search of the fishing nets he released last night. A beautiful, poetic spring, an image that blends man and water ecosystems.
This photo is part of a series about life of nomad fishermen, living adrift on the lakes and rivers in Vietnam, with a free lifestyle and isolated from modern society. They make a living using ancient nets, handmade with bamboo poles joined together. They release fish traps on the lake's surface.

Safende was born in the 1970s due to the rural exodus and the growth of City of Praia.
esides rural migrants, its first residents were Cape Verdean refugees coming from Angola, a result of Portuguese decolonization. 
Social inequalities and poverty triggered conflicts, robberies, drug use, gang wars, to the point that the neighborhood was called Chechnya in the 1990s.
In 2012, a group of residents, mostly young people, united to fight the violence. Today, the "amado neighborhood" is considered a safe suburb of Cidade da Praia.

2021 was a challenging year for Burma. The military coup and resulting protests killed and maimed many in the country. The third wave of Covid-19 also led to many deaths. Across the country, there was suffering due to a shortage of doctors and oxygen supply.
The price of medicine has become exorbitant. In response, many young people started to volunteer in fighting the pandemic. They are the real heroes, with a great sense of humanity and compassion.

The village where this photo was taken, in the Khulna district of coastal Bangladesh, suffers from a severe lack of clean drinking water. The groundwater has extremely high salinity values. Thus, people have to rely on several ponds. The water they consume does not even go through a filtering process before drinking.
The irony is that people in this region have 4G Internet access, but no safe drinking water.

At eighty-five years old, he was living with his family in the Kurmitola slum beside Mirpur DOHS road, Dhaka. When he heard about the plans to demolish his house for the reconstruction of the road, he panicked and started talking to himself.
It was difficult for him to survive during the lockdown in the pandemic: with no job and not enough food, he feared losing his shelter.
Adam Ali died in 2021.
I photographed him in an old broken mirror in his home. I wanted to capture both visual and conceptual thoughts in one frame. The mirror symbolizes his broken heart, his life at that moment. The marks on the mirror give insight into his conversation with his soul.
